I just found this site yesterday, its quite a shock to know how many other people this has happened to!
about a week or so ago i started to get a pop up from mbs which i stupidly ignored....just thought it was a harmless pop-up (said i was a techno phobe didn't i!!) then about thurs/fri last week i read it properly and was confused to see i owed £29.99 for a subscription to 'the pink zone'...?? wtf! i subsequently found out this is a porn site and had been accessed by my 18 year old nephew and his friend 'for a laugh'!! anyway he claims that they were only on it for a few minutes, never gave any personal details and they didn't sign up to anything or agree to any terms and conditions which i do beleive.

I've since gone on this website and cancelled the subscription, but am thinking of just paying up...will this stop it from coming up on my pc every time?? i keep reading about system restore and system 32 and have no idea what this is or means...??

can anyone please explain in non-computer speak what i have to do to get rid of this blasted pop-up and the icon as i'm really worried now after keep reading that it can affect my computer etc...!

any help and advice greatly appreciated before i start pulling all my hair out!!!!

Thanks for reply....

well i'd rather not pay considering i never went on the damn site in the first place!!

i did look into a link on here for brute force uninstaller, but it looked a bit confusing to me...?? when they talk about 'safe mode' and the BIOS screen...?? and thats just the start!! sorry i'm just not very good with computer terminology....however i'll check it out again later and see if i can make sense of it.....

Platte Media's lawyers have told us that we are not allowed to link to a publicly available piece of commercial software which is used to remove unwanted software, spyware, viruses, and the like, from a Windows PC. It seems as if that particular piece of software might be useful for removing Platte Media's software. Oh well, I am sure you'll find someone to help you fix the threats that others missed.

Apparently it (Go on, have a guess) is pretty effective, and you may find it easier to use.  If you are worried about your ability to do this (being inexperienced), perhaps you should get your nephew to come back and help you to sort out the mess he's left you with?

To get back full interrupted use of your PC you do need to remove the MBS software.  You may also wish to lodge a complaint with Trading Standards since it is your computer which is compromised, and also given that your nephew is adamant he didn't sign up for anything.

Don't hesitate to ask for more help if you're still having problems.

Hey thanks for all the advice....

I spent about 3hours on tues night trying to get rid of this, i followed inst that someone had posted on here about going into safe mode and then to system 32 and deleting the files which i did etc etc....then did a system restore which worked...........for about 5 minutes until the sodding thing popped back on my screen!! i then realised that my ntl netguard anti virus had run out or was out of date...? so a friend recommended going to download.com and downloading the following : avg anti virus free edition & ad aware 2007 which i did (took over an hour to do this what with scanning and stuff and it detected the virus's or trojans are they called?? thats a new one on me!)

Then went back into the system 32 again...repeated the same again, this still didn't seem to work but then had a message saying my anti virus was out of date....which was bizarre as had only just downloaded it but updated that, went back into system 32 the files seemed to have gone, although the icon was still on my screen but deleted this and deleted from my trash!

i left pc on for about another 30 minutes and fingers crossed it hasn't come back......?!?!? i'm not holding my breathe just yet!
