I've not heard from Platte or Oriel since the end of January!
Good riddance!

If only some were as lucky hemogoblin.

I advised my mother to send a letter to Oriel informing them that they were in dispute with Platte and that they would not be paying the debt.
Well she got a speedy response from Mr Williams.

Thank you for the response. Oriel Collections is a third party and has no access to any correspondence previously sent to Platte.

The account is now with Oriel and we will be happy to investigate your dispute. Please forward a detailed written dispute.

Yours sincerely, Owen Williams

My parents had already written to Platte before Oriel got involved requesting all details of the person who signed up to the alledged contract including the time and date of when it was supposed to be entered into.
They haven't repsponded.

So I'll be getting my mother to send a request to Oriel for these details. I'm sure they must have it or they wouldn't be able to prove that she was responsible for the debt. Once we have this information I will be drafting the full written dispute letter to them with everything I have on them, including the fact that my mother, the alledged debtor, was in fact nowhere near her computer at the time of the alledged download.

I'll keep you posted on what we get back.

I have just received a letter from Oriel, I do not know when it arrived as I have been on vacation for the past week.  The letter is dated April 2009, unfortunately they have my name on the letter.

I have been in communications with Platte regarding the proof that they have, that I downloaded the software onto my computer.  But like everyone else I have not received and answer from Platte.

The main question that I have to everyone is this; how can Oriel collect any outstanding amounts if the company that they are collecting for has ceased trading within the UK?  Is this another scare tactic from another corrupt company to try and lever the money out of the innocent person.

I am thinking about calling Oriel to explain the situation, has anybody tried this and what success did you have?
The two concerns that I have is a) could this affect my credit rating (as I have a near perfect score and I do not want this to change)?  b) could this get all nasty involving the courts etc?

I look forward to hearing from any of you with advise.

At the moment Sam the only advice I can give is to request Oriel to provide the proof of the debt. A few people have done this and as yet have to hear back from Oriel.
It is possible that they have simply accepted the job of collecting the debts for Platte but not actually picked up the evidence of the debts. Maybe they are relalising that the proof is rather ambigious and probably won't hold up in court. I for one would welcome this going to court.

The only thing i can say sam is, as these are supposed to be a reputable company i would only contact them in writing, keeping copies of all corrispondence. I'm unsure, but i don't think Oriel know what the've got into, and what a bunch of charlatans the've agreed to represent. I did contact them via phone but after talking  to a very tired, cheesed off and rude Owen williams i decided on the above approach.good luck

Thanks for the advise, I will be writing to them tomorrow asking for the proof that it was me.  As I have said before I have asked platte this and have recieved nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But I still want to know a) how can a company chase a debt that has ceased trading in the UK b) how do they think they will get away with it as the who thing is a sham.

My father has not said to me he has had any correspondance from Platte media or Oriel Communications, so i presume they never got his personal details, he never gave them his address, i managed to get the software removed permantly from their PC, and our Internet provider informed me that they would'nt be able to obtain their details.
I will ask my father if he has had any correspondance from them, if you dont hear from me again regarding this you know that he hasnt.

At last somethings been done about this, its about time, i wish people good luck who are still having problems with this matter
regards
Roy
