Wow!!!
I'd just like to add my thanks to the administrators of the site and to Forum Friend in particular.
'A friend in need is a friend indeed', and I needed a friend to help me fight this grubby company.
Great News and great work by everyone who took the time and trouble to fight Platte.
If it doesn't offend anyones sensibilities, can I say God bless you all.
I was contacted by Oriel on 29th January and I told them that I did not acknowledge the debt and was in dispute with Platte.
I requested that Oriel supply me with full details of how and when the debt had been incurred - but they couldn't so I stipulated that unless I heard
from Platte/Oriel within 28 days I would consider the matter closed. Guess what - it's 6 weeks now and I haven't heard a peep!
Tonight, I will raise an extra large glass of a very fine single malt and say 'Cheers' and thanks again.
To Mr Ashley Bateup and his pals, I say F**k U!

A big well done to all who contributed both on this Forum and behind the scenes.  A victory for the abused by IT scams but beware the next one.

I would like to recommend two sites:

http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/
http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/

full of useful info.  Wink

Hi everyone....I would also like to add my thanks to all concerned in aiding me with this difficulty. 3 months ago I had not heard of Platte but I have certainly heard of them now. Beside this forum and all your helpers and likewise Michael Pollitt for the confidence to challange these people I would also like to thank Brian Jenkins MP and my local Trading Standards office who also gave me support. Whilst the official view of the OFT was ultimately upheld I received nothing but helpful advice from these people. My wife has also been a brick,,,so thankyou each and everyone.

Hi although I did not have any software on my PC but was still pestered by Platte for months, Thanks to all for help, I hope we have got rid of them for good .one way I get rid of bits of software  that remain, go into the registry, not for the faint hearted!  go to start, run, type in regedit, your registry will then come up, now very important that you make a backup of the registry first, use the find and type in the name of the programme, it should then tell you where these bits are, go there and before you delete them make a note of what you are deleting, just in case!! Sometimes software like this has an icon so you can look for that in each section, be careful and I don’t guarantee anything, do it at your own risk. Good look.

Thanks for your post, spotted dog.

A general word about removing Platte.  The Easy PC site has a removal tool which has proven effective (we hear) for a number of people.  Symantec and others also now remove Platte (see Michael Pollitt for details).  If you're concerned whether there's any Platte stuff left, take a look here (look at various posts on this Blog which deal with Platte) which may well be useful.

You imply that you haven't heard from Platte for a while.  If you do hear from them or, more likely, from Oriel, do not be phased by this, and in particular, if Oriel contact you, you should respond but tell them that you are in dispute with Platte as you did not visit their sites.
