This article, which will appear in tomorrow's Guardian in the Technology section, confirms what some forum members have already suspected, namely that the Platte website, Getfilmsnow, does not 'deliver' on what it appears to promise.

plattes post june 9th  reads;copyrights(films) we have a distribution licence for all content on getfilmsnow Grin now we know different
Note from moderator:  apparently the agreement is with Platte International, not with getfilmsnow, but there would appear to be a licence for content, if not for images.

The Guardian article should be read in conjunction with this update, in which it becomes clear that the BiBC do have an agreement with Platte.

I went onto their site “Get Films Now” in May after seeing their advert for ‘free films’ (Should have known better, you don’t get anything for nothing!)  I was on there long enough to see that the ‘free films’ were in fact adverts, came out and deleted the program.
A few weeks later the dreaded advert/billing icon started to appear… I don’t want to bore you with all the details, but I did phone them and told them to get stuffed!  I went on the net, typed in plattemedia in Google and lo and behold, there were pages and pages of complaints about Platte and in one of them the answer to how to get rid of it.  I found this

It worked so sent it to the three programs I use to keep my computer clean of all the rubbish that is flying about out there --- anti-virus, no spywear and no adwear and suggested that they incorporate it into their next up-grade.
After finding this site, I resolved to 1. join, and 2. make the bastards take me to court, a couple of weeks ago I phoned them and deliberately gave them my address and said “I will not pay, please take me to court”:
Yesterday I received their threatening letter, in the body of the letter were these words:-

“In accordance with out terms and conditions, failure to contact us to settle your account within seven days from the date of this letter may result in us, or our appointed agents, initiating legal proceedings against you without further notice.”

Also attached was their bill in which they kindly stated how long I was on their site for, 3 minutes 24 seconds, just long enough to see what a loads of rubbish was on there!

I am looking forward to the impending court case, (if it every gets that far) I have 70 odd pages of complaints from the net, this site and a copy of The Guardian article, with this, even a blind judge will be able to see that this lot are a bunch of crooks.
