I have been in contact with Platte Media, as my computer was affected by what I thought was a virus as thier program was on my screen, and I was unable to uninstall it. I rang them to say that I have been asked for £29.99 for a program that I never asked for, I was told that I or some one had loged in and entered a number and accected the rules and regulations. I told them that no bdy has done anything of the sort, on my computor. If they had it was not for thier program. I also E-Mailed them and got a reply 4weeks later asking for my account number that was on the screen, I then got a reply 2weeks later with a down load number to uninstall the program. With it came a bill for £29.99. I then rang them again and told them the same story and said I refuse to pay for something I never used and did not ask for. I was told that I was the owner of the computer and was liable for the bill.I also said to them that they got my details from my computer of my bank details, and was told that they have not got anything?. I await for futher letters or E-Mails from them.
Has anyone else had the same problem and what is/was the outcome. Is the program a virus? I have done scans and nothing shows up as a virus?.

In a nutshell, no the platte/mbs software is not a virus.

It is being labelled more as a "potentially unwanted application"

see here
http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2005-052316-2738-99

Although it does show virus-like behaviours such as locking the screen for so long, being such a pain to remove etc etc

BUT

the fact that some people DO find their services useful, and im sure there are people out there that do, means it cant be lablled a virus.

just my thoughts on it anyway  Grin
