- a space dedicated to helping MBS victims. These are people who have unexpectedly found their computers becoming progressively disabled due to pop ups coming from Micro Bill Systems (MBS), a company based in Leeds, who operate a billing system used predominantly by porn sites.
While Micro Bill Systems (MBS) consistently assert that these bills arrive as a result of people agreeing to a set of terms and conditions, internet forums have records of many internet users who are very puzzled as they have not accessed sites where Micro Bill Systems' billing system is used, let alone agreed to their Terms and Conditions.
In some cases, it has turned out that other, often underage, members of their family have accessed the websites who operate Micro Bill Systems (MBS) billing system, but without being aware that there would be a charge incurred for viewing such websites. Since there is no need for 'users' to provide credit card, or other, details, there is a clear danger of access to underage users.
A problem that many people raise is the issue of the length of these terms and conditions of use which Micro Bill Systems (MBS) rely upon for agreement to the user being billed and the user's computer becoming disabled. These run to around 13 pages, with the crucial (from the consumer's point of view) issues not appearing in these until the 9th page. Many have argued that the relevant issues should appear much more prominently, and others have argued that a warning should be sent to people before the 3-day Free Trial Period concludes in order to give them time to cancel any subscriptions for which Micro Bill Systems (MBS) holds them liable.
Micro Bill Systems (MBS) consistently assert that their billing system is legal. This issue hasn't yet been finally tested in court, but given the nature of this innovative approach, it remains unclear whether this system is acceptable in an internet environment.
