Hello, :'(
When I was infected by these demands I thought that I was the only person in the world and that I had done something shameful.
I went on a site "get films now", which purports to be a useful site. I really cannot remember if I did fill in details or not. My McAfee started the alarm bells etc and I jumped back to my PC and deleted all as advised but it was too late. I contacted the OFT, customer care, local and national and got nothing sensible from them. I then got angry and common sense kicked in so, I went back to the OFT and spoke to someone. It was as if I was speaking to a member of the Platte group, "You must pay this bill."
So what am I paying for?
I am paying for a stupid mistake, that is not my main problem. I am old and have had to pay for many mistakes in my life.
What I am annoyed about is that I am paying someone to make my life problematic, by letting someone into my life by taking over control of my computer. I can't help but think that if someone held a gun to my head and demanded money and I contacted the police the answer may be, "You must pay this bill."
Is Platte monitoring these help sites?
As I'm writing this windows have popped up yet another bill from Platte and not for the first time.

I have contacted Watchdog and I hope that they can take up this cause.
Am I the only one to do this?

I believe others have contacted Watchdog.  But You and Yours are following this story (see the links above) and remain interested.  You can contact them via the Radio 4 website.

As to whether Platte monitor our site - no doubt they do.  It's public.  But messages can be exchanged privately, so don't hesitate to contact Andy or me by email.

As to what is happening on your computer, if you haven't already looked at the undertaking given by MBS/Platte Media to the OFT, I suggest you do so now and begin monitoring what is happening to your computer and how this compares to those undertakings.  If MBS/Platte are breaking any of those undertakings, let us know, and let the OFT know.  And let You and Yours know, too, as they'll take the matter up.  Keep a log of what has happened/is happening.

I have been on most of the sites and I am so happy to learn that I am not the only idiot in the world.
There is no doubt that I fell for a con.
I have just spoken to a rep of Platte.
I recorded the call and opened up my 'phone to witnesses, this was agreed to by their rep.
They have promised to hold the ransom notes/demands for 7 days, whilst awaiting payment (naming them ransom notes was my idea as I was writing this)
I will be sending them a postal order, due to the fact that they would not give me their banking details and I didn't want them to have mine.
I made it clear what I wanted to achieve by this payment and they agreed to this.
I await with bated breath and of course I will keep you posted.
Have I weakened? Not a bit but I am sticking to the law as the OFT said.
Am I still angry? No I am calm and moving slowly.

I am unfortunately a chaotic browser.
So, could someone please guide me to the post that says that a government department has given the directors of Platte protection from harm.
An idea has come to me and I need to reread this post.
And how do I get rid of my open email address.
