Hi folks, I just found this stupid software on my PC and I'm having a real time trying to get rid. I've tried everything that this website suggest. From deleting the files (only to have it reappear). System restore didn't work. Bruteforce uninstall doesn't get rid, Smitfraudfix doesn't get rid of it either. I'm getting a copy of norton wipe tomorrow to see if that will work too! I'm just going to try to call them to tell them that they are breaking the Computer Misuse Act 1990 to see if that works. I've emailed Watchdog as well to try and get a response out of them.

Can anyone give me any other advice, because my last resort is formatting my hard drive completely. But I've no idea if that would work either.

Can anyone suggest anything else?

Very frustrated

I think the first step is to describe (or provide a screen shot if you can) exactly what kind of pop up you're getting.

That way some of the more knowledgeable members of the forum can more easily ascertain what type and variant you've got on your system.

I'd certainly hold off formatting your entire drive for now — while that almost certainly would clear everything out, you'd lose all your other documents too (I'm sure you knew that! Smiley )

Hopefully the solution isn't too far away.

Hi Andy, thanx for the support. I was told about a program by a friend called Spyware Terminator and that seems to have done the trick. After a bit of a panic I think I got it all. I'll post something on the solutions page too

Hope it worked. Was it an MBS bill or a Platte Media bill, or some other, that came up?

While Platte appear to be using the technology from MBS, I wouldn't be surprised if there have been changes to make it harder for the software to be unofficially removed, if nothing else by changing the filenames and locations, and such like.

It was the Platte media bill that came up as well as the get films now icon and it was a pain to try an get rid. No matter what I did, it would just not go. I'm going to check my PC a little later to see if has gone for good, but I really hope it has. Spyware terminator found the trojan that infected my PC and (hopefully) obliterated it. I think they were getting a little more clever in their programming. I called the "uninstall hotline" and they said they wouldn't give me any help without the reference number that was on the "bill" I told them I wouldn't give them any info that could track me and asked why they couldn't just tell me how to uninstall it but they wouldn't budge. Needless to say I hung up and didn't call back as I knew it wouldn't get me anywhere to just eff and blind at them.
Anyway, I'll keep an eye out for it popping back up and hopefully my experience has helped some other people coming here or reading my solution.

It's good to have a community to help. Thanks for all advice from everyone.

I sense "Get Films Now" as being a new menace. It's only been around for a few months but I presume they're marketing it quite aggressively online.

I'd be interested to know how you found out about GFN in the first place, if indeed you even remember visiting their site?

Was it an ad on Google, or elsewhere?

I'm intrigued because, while there must be people looking to watch ordinary movies online, I can imagine the way that many "porn circles" work is to lure people specifically searching into various sites, whereas I wouldn't have thought that would happen with more mainstream stuff, but I may be wrong.

I'm not shifting blame on this, but was my flatmate who looked at the site and he's been away, so I don't know exactly how it occurred. I'm guessing he wanted to watch a film or something and looked at that site. I'm sure he must have googled it. Could also be similar to other people, he might have mistaken it for lovefilm.com or similar. I'll ask him when I see him and post again
